Rini moved to Mexico in 1974 where popular struggles had exploded again after years of repression. She soon became involved with the struggle for union democracy, led by the Tendencia Democrática (Democratic Tendency), in which electrical workers played a key role in 1980.
Its last mobilization was the Campamento de la Dignidad (Camp of Dignity) set up in front of the Presidential House and removed by police two months later.
