Rini traveled from Mexico to Nicaragua for 6 months in 1980, invited by the Ministry of Culture to come with a group of Mexican graphic workers. While there, she made many drawings of life in Sandinista Nicaragua-the landscape, the marches, workers, musicians, women in leadership, community meetings, daily life, and especially Bluefields, the Afro-Nica community on the Atlantic Coast. She also made placards for marches, held workshops on how to put together a publication, and did voluntary work picking cotton.
