As U.S. intervention in Central America intensified during the early 1980's, the opposition movement grew. Events such as the assassination of Archbishop Oscar Romero in El Salvador made many Americans critical of U.S. government policy. Protests in the U.S. became frequent and Rini drew many of them as a participant-artist, including actions at Kirkland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, N.M.
